Prof. Dr. habil. Birgit Mandel (born 1963) is Professor of Cultural Mediation and Cultural Management and Director of the Institute for Cultural Policy at the University of Hildesheim. She directs the Master's programme in Cultural Mediation and the Bachelor's programme in Cultural Studies and Aesthetic Practice.
She is Vice-President of the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Commerzbank Foundation, for which she developed the "ZukunftsGut" prize for institutional cultural mediation, and a member of the Supervisory Board of Berlin Kulturprojekte GmbH. She is a founding member of the Fachverband für Kulturmanagement and led the association as president for several years.
In previous cultural practice, she worked in the field of public relations for the Berliner Festspiele, the Berliner Kultursenat and the Theater Bar jeder Vernunft, among others.
She has conducted various research projects at the interface of cultural mediation, cultural education, audience development, cultural management and cultural policy as well as visitor studies and population surveys and is the author of many publications in the field of cultural mediation and cultural management).
